The Following Game/Lesson will be used as a supplement to the hands-on training each new-hire will receive.
Pacing – The game will be played during new hire “training” that will vary in length, but will usually last two weeks. The trainee may play as often as he/she would like after training on the job, on his or her own time, so they can apply their training and re-visit the information.
Instructions - To begin, the trainee will create their own personalized profile and therefore can collaborate and get to know their other training members (if applicable). The levels will be based on the information taught that day/week and the instructions to the game will be explained prior to anyone beginning Level 1. As the trainee moves through the levels hints will be available. Each level will have a tutorial button for information if they do not know/remember the information. The more they play, the higher ranking they will receive. This can be achieved when the player no longer has to use hint boxes to complete the level. The trainee will move from apprentice to novice to rookie to official member.
Controls – Controls can vary depending upon level/lesson. If most of that level is question based the controls will be simple, like using the mouse to click the answer. If the level involves actual hands on tasks, like setting up lighting, then they may be moving equipment in the virtual space through mouse and/or keyboard.
Knowledge – The training that happens during that week will be the topic(s) of the level corresponding to the progression of the training program. The idea of the game will be to retain the knowledge learned instead of just going through the training and leaving the information behind. Most trainees will have basic knowledge of multimedia and how to use it, but will be trained to Martin Productions standards.
Achievements – The progression achievements will be marked by their ranking name; apprentice, novice, rookie, skilled, specialist, master. The ultimate achievement, master, can only be attained by making it through the entire game with out using hints or information buttons in the game.
Story –The game/activities will be based on client needs. Whether it is designing a plan for new clients or creating a new vision for current clients. This will be based directly to that weeks training focus. The story progresses from each component to total media package. The trainee will master each task and then put it all together in the final level for completion.
Endgame – The end result will be completion of the entire program and the last level, which is ultimately a total package, start to finish. Finishing this level gives you the necessary skills/knowledge to become a representation of Martin Productions with out shadowing/training with a current employee.
Assessment – The levels in which the trainee passes measures their performance/knowledge/skills. They cannot move on to the next level until they’ve retained all information and use it to answer the questions correctly, without clicking the hints available.
Timing – It will take each trainee the duration of the training to complete the game. The lessons will be taught by the trainer, following the progression of the game, so that they overlap and are a review for the hands on application with the trainer. This gives the trainee an idea of what they know and what they should ask questions about the next day.
Fun and Motivation - This game will give trainee's an opportunity to review what they are learning in a creative way that just might be FUN! Learners are motivated because they are not only learning the skills and expectations of being a Martin Productions team member, but at the same time they are competing with themselves to achieve completion and that title of Master. No one wants to stay the "rookie" forever.
